NWC was founded in 2016, in memory of Nicola Werner, who lost her life to human papilloma virus (HPV) cancer.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, and in particular for the Gustave Roussy Institute in Paris.
The NWC's main activity is the cycling challenge: last year, 800 cyclists rode in 17 cities on 3 continents for cancer research, raising over €100,000.
The cycling challenge serves as a platform to raise funds and awareness for active cancer prevention: reducing the risk of cancer by 40% by adapting behaviours, and reducing the risk of HPV-related cancer by >80% through vaccination.
Five core values serve as guidelines for all activities:

On September 14, 2024, we start our day at the Triathlon store at 2:30 a.m., where the atmosphere is already very warm despite the temperature barely approaching 4 degrees Celsius.
So I'm joining a band of merry men who just want to ride their bikes!
Today, I was riding for Loetitia.
Formalities out of the way, we head for the French Vexin region, just 30 kilometers from Paris, through magnificent countryside.
At 7am, our first stop is a bakery, which sees us arrive in droves and plays along, serving us coffee, pains au chocolat, croissants and croque monsieur! Thank you Valérie for your morning cheerfulness.
Around 11am, it was the turn of the famous Boulangerie POILANE to serve us the special breads and sweets they have the pleasure of offering us in their Parisian bakeries, in the heart of the Rambouillet forest. What luxury!
Well done to the volunteers for their support.
At around 1:30 pm, we met up at the "BARN" in the Vallée de Chevreuse for a lunch of grilled meats, sandwiches, fruit and other delicious recipes, much appreciated by all participants.
So you're going to tell me that all we did was eat!
I'll let you enjoy our route, the distance...and the calories burned.
